A birthday party, pretend groceries, and butterfly clogs

Vada went to a friends birthday party at the children’s museum this past weekend. While the friends had cake and the birthday boy opened presents Vada kept asking when she could go play. She ran straight for the grocery store when it was time. We stayed until they kicked us out for closing time.

Black and white

This little girl really pushed my buttons this morning… But she did willingly wear these high top black converse shoes. Of course she was so pleased when her beloved Laura at daycare said she had the same shoes!

Happy birthday Jamie!

Yesterday was Jamie’s 7th birthday! We celebrated with a van trip to the store and ice cream. Vada did a great job holding Jamie’s Frosty Paws cup…

Happy birthday Jamie!

Jamie turned 7 on Sunday. We celebrated with a van trip to the store to pick up some Frosty Paws (dog ice cream). Vada did a great job holding Jamie’s Frosty Paws cup until her hands got too cold!

Sand

When I picked up Vada one day from daycare last week she looked like a puppy dog with a spotted eye. Upon closer inspection I saw that it was a fine layer of sand stuck to her face with sweat and sunblock.

Swing

Toban spent the afternoon adding the swing portion to Vada’s playset. She was thrilled! She even wanted to call her best friend Parker to tell her about it. I am sure we will spend the majority of tomorrow out there swinging.

Baby videos

Some mornings while we are still lounging around waking up, Vada asks to watch videos of her as a baby on our iPhones. I like to do that too!

Deschutes

Toban had planned a fishing trip to the Deschutes River in Oregon over Easter weekend when Vada and I travelled to Denver. The river levels were too high for fishing that weekend so the trip got postponed. Conditions were workable this weekend so we headed out.

We camped right on the Deschutes River in the town of Maupin (population 400). This portion of the river doesn’t look quite as majestic as the more interesting rapids outside of town.

We dropped Toban off at the fly shop where we met up with his guide.

I had all day to entertain Vada and Jamie. Luckily the weather was great and the town had a grade school with a nice play ground.

Reunited with Toban for an evening walk along the river. Vada corrected me that this bigger portion of the river was actually the ocean.

The next morning we went out with Toban to see some of the areas the guide had taken him fishing.

We had never been this far east in Oregon before. The high desert terrain is so different from what we are used to in the Portland area yet it was only a little over 2 hour drive away.

Art Show

Vada had an art show today at daycare. The staff really went to an immense amount of work to help the kids create unique individual art as well as group classroom art. There were paintings, photographs, dance & music videos, 3D sculptures, Lego creations, etc. And these kids are all 5 years old and under! Vada seemed the most proud of her classrooms group art project and kept running back to stand by it.

Vada’s individual art project is a painting but apparently Vada is quite known in her classroom for always body painting. She starts out painting on paper but then always ends up painting her arms as well.
