Eagle Creek – take 2

We headed back out to Eagle Creek along the Columbia River Gorge this weekend. This is where we went camping a few weeks ago but weren’t able to hike very far due to lack of planning to accomodate an infant and a dog.

This time we got up early and drove to the trailhead instead of walking from the campsite. We were shaded from the sun and the early morning temperatures were cooler. Less traffic on the trail too.

We took several quick stops to switch Vada around in different carrier positions to keep her cool and not too cranky.

This waterfall was our summit for the day. The trail continued on for several more miles but we wanted to make sure we all made it back to the van happy and in good condition. Parts of the trail were fairly rocky so we were kind of concerned about Jamie’s paws.

Here is Vada enjoying her post hike peaches. She would have preferred to just pull and eat the grass. Or eat the container’s lid.

Toban had me drive the van part of the way home. It is big and I wouldn’t want to drive it in town, but I think I did OK on the highway.

Spa Day

Yesterday we treated Jamie to a Spa Day. We actually drove straight there from our weekend camping trip which we will post about shortly.

A local greyhound family with a large fenced property hosted it as a fundraiser for the greyhound organization. The dogs ran and played and took turns getting washed and groomed. Jamie didn’t play much and spent most of her time laying in the shade. You can barely see her in the mulch under this tree.

The dogs all received a stylish neck scarf. We made Jamie wear her scarf the rest of the day because she looked so handsome in it. She was so worn out she didn’t even care.

Fuzzy wuzzy

The sun was shining in on Vada yesterday to highlight her inch of fuzzy wuzzy golden red hair. How long will it get before it lays down?

Hair

For the past seven or so years I have done nothing to my hair. Wash, comb, let grow, cut when irritatingly long, donate, repeat. I loved the ease of that plan but was increasingly bored with the straight flat hair. So Toban and I started talking again about a hairstyle that I have always talked about but never thought I could have… dreadlocks. Well, Portland just happens to be home to the Dread Goddess. Apparently folks travel from around the globe for an appointment because of the type of dreading she does. It is a method originating from Thailand in which your hair is crocheted with a teeny tiny crochet hook. This is what it looked like after one hour. The actual dreading happens over time. At a minimum, this shouldn’t be boring.

Good morning

Vada is not really crawling but she can get around a bit by scooting backwards and spinning around. This morning I brought her into our bedroom while I got ready. She scooted herself to the window, moved the curtains and looked out the window. (Yes, she can get into a sitting position on her own!) We know you like the outdoors Vada… What else do you like?
